What Is A Coach?
Shaneka provides valuable
fitness and diet expertise aimed at helping women transform their bodies from
the inside out. Her focus is on tearing down the emotional and mental barriers
that keep her clients from losing weight and present them with tools to overcome.
“Creating a diet and fitness plan is easy, it’s creating a mindset that will
commit to these plans that’s the challenge, and that’s the hard work I do with
my clients,” Shaneka says.
She has a passion for
fitness and health, and has dedicated 10 years to studying nutrition and fitness along with
human psychology. She has helped a number of women reach fitness success. Her key to getting clients results is helping them connect spiritually
and emotionally to their dreams and goals, and pulling out their highest level
of potential.
Shaneka's personal fitness and wellness journey...
I started my journey almost 10 years ago. Growing up, I was never what most would consider overweight; I was what we call in my culture thick, big boned, healthy (lol!). I was 5'4, 155 to 160 pounds depending on the day, technically by doctors standards I was in fact slightly overweight but more than that I was unsatisfied with my weight and my body in general.
Now it wasn't that I didn't love myself or accept myself or cared what people around me thought about my size. I'd hear all the time from guys how nice they thought I looked, the problem was I didn't. I hated that my pants didn't fit all the way up over my rear-end, I didn't like going to the store trying on clothes that looked classy and sleek on a slimmer girl but then super tight and overly sexy on me. You see my decision for wanting to lose weight was a personal choice that had nothing to do with outside opinions.
My first crack at trying to lose weight..
Deciding to lose weight as a teenager who grew up in a home where everything was fried, over-processed and filled with sugar made it extremely difficult to reach a goal of dropping pounds. I tried restricting certain foods, exercising, eating foods that I thought were a little more healthy (tortilla chips instead of cheetos :) but none of that worked. I could only say no so many times to my mother's southern fried dishes before I'd cave in. Exercise lasted for a while until I got bored or found 101 reasons why I couldn't do it today.
My biggest challenge at that time was clarity...
I didn't know what eating healthy looked like, and everything I thought I knew was either based off tv shows or assumptions I'd made up on my own. It's no surprise I failed at my weight loss attempt back then.
My turning point...
Fast forward 2005, I was pregnant with my second baby, during my first pregnancy I had gained about 30 pounds and I all I could remember was how hard it was getting that weight off. In fact I was still trying to bounce back from that and my first born was 3! At that moment I decided this time I was going to do something different.
So, I started walking, everyday I 'd get in my car big belly and all and drive to the track and just walk. This seemed like a small step but it was one that I was committed to, and that's what ultimately made the difference. As I continued on my journey I started learning more about healthy eating and exercise. I went to school to become a personal trainer, all while pregnant. My small commitment eventually lead me into a fit, healthy and happy life. And as a result during my pregnancy I only gained 15 pounds, 6 of which was the baby and because of the healthy habits I had established while pregnant I was able to lose an additional 30 pounds after giving birth.
My life today...
The most satisfying thing I've gained from my weight loss and wellness journey is control. It feels good today to no longer be a slave to food and cravings; and have the body I've always dreamed of and wanted. Every day I work hard at maintaining my wellness and I enjoy every minute of it because it aligns fully with my vision for my life.
My passion is to support, celebrate, and empower other women to live in their greatness and create a life of health, fitness, and happiness because they can. I hate limits, they truly keep us from living within our vision of how we see ourselves and who we want to become and as a health and life coach I love to help women tear those walls down and start living life in the body they want.
So enough about my story, what yours? Are you ready for a new beginning? Looking to write a new chapter in your life, one that consist of good health, fitness, and wholeness?
Well, I'd love to hear about!
It would be my pleasure to support you in creating your own unique healthy living plan that can give you the results you desire most!
Much health and freedom,
Shaneka
