Question: "Shaneka, I don't have time to workout 30
minutes every day which I heard is what you're supposed to do. I work
long hours and I'm a single mother. My question is what kinds of
workouts can I do like twice a week and still get results?" - Deborah
Shaneka's Answer: "Deborah, this is the story of most
women's lives, we're so busy working and taking care of others that it's
difficult to fit in time for ourselves. However regular exercise is not
only a critical element to losing weight it's vital to our overall
health.
Now, working out everyday for 30 minutes is not an requirement but what
is, is consistency. So you have two days out of the week to workout
that's fine but on those days you have to go hard and make it count. Do
this by doing full body exercises that engage all areas- legs, butt,
arms, stomach you're looking for a total burn all over!
Try exercises like jogging or running which are simple and calorie burning intense to get you moving your entire body.
If you're not a runner that's fine try walking 30 seconds and running
30 seconds. Continue increasing the number of seconds you run week by
week to amp up the challenge and burn more.
Another great workout is circuit training which I absolutely
love because you need little to no equipment and you can get big results
in half the time as a 30 or 40 minute workout! Circuit
training is a combination of cardio and strength training exercise
moves. You choose the moves and do 30 second sets and repeat the whole
circuit of exercises 3 times, or more if you feel like really digging in
:) So for example you may do 30 seconds of jumping jacks, 30 second
sit-ups, 30 seconds of push-ups, and 30 seconds of squats. Complete each
set with about a 20 second rest in between, then start the circuit all
over again. The key here is to push yourself to the highest level to
maximize and get the most out of the workout.
Whichever, workout you choose go for at least 30 minutes full out, and
you should get some good results. Also be sure to stick to a healthy
diet. All the exercise in the world cannot replace a good diet plan. If
your goal is to lose weight it all starts with your diet, exercise is
simply an added boost to get you to your goals.
Good luck, Deborah!
Much success,
